OK i am new at this and never installed neons before. I have a 99 explorer and want to install two neons; one under your feet in the driver side and one on the passanger side (front). I do not want them off the cigerette lighter who does? i want to wire them to a switch (both to one switch if possible) so i can easily tun them off and on. But i dont know if i need wire or wat wire i might need so if someone could give me detailed steps on how to do this so its neat, looks, and works good, that would be great. thanx.
Run 14 gauge (you could probably go with 18 because neons don't draw too much power) to a 12V+ source (this could be the battery, fuse box, any ignition wire, etc.) Connect the 12V+ wire to a switch (you can pick them up anywhere) run the line from switch to the + side of both neons. Find a good ground (any metal surface connected to the chassis) and connect that to the negative side of both neons. And you're done.
Radio Shack for a switch you like and some wiring (enough to cover your needs). Also get some wire clips that allow you to tap into already installed wiring. They clamp down over the wire.
If you're handy with opening your dash area, you can look at tying into the pos and neg leads on your cigarette lighter. Remove the fuse for the lighter before touching this, of course.
Now you can pull the dash assembly off and tie into the leads going to the cigarette lighter. You can make the loop longer on the positive side and add the switch to that. Mount the switch under the dash somewhere.
