Question Hood Mounting

Regarding 1953 F-100 hinges, etc.: The hinge plates which are welded to the hood have bent recesses into which fits a bent metal section running laterally from one hinge plate to the other. Upon cleaning this area of the hood, I found that the bent metal section had been brazed to the hinge plates. I know that the braze is not part of the original truck. My question is whether or not a tight connection is supposed to be made between the hinge plates and the section, or is the section meant to simply push against the plate, and allowed to slide in the hinge plate recess. I can not find any indication that the section was ever firmly attached to the plates, but it may have been a simply tack that got ground away when the brazing was done.

Exclamation Someone Knows

Come on guys...someone must know the answer to this question: was the curved section cross piece that braces the back of the hood, and runs laterally between one hinge plate and the other welded to the hinge plates?

Hi

Nothing moves. Mine has two or three spot welds per side.

Thank you, Chuck...I'm right at the hood today, and I'll have those tacks back on within the next few hours. The hood has never really worked right since it blew open on the interstate driving through Nebraska about thirty years ago.
