All, I know this has been covered and I have researched this topic on the site...my 97 with 97K miles kicked on the "check engine light" a few days ago. I had the code read at Advance and codes PO455 (EVAP emission control system leak (large)) and PO401 (EGR flow insufficient) spit out. Like I said, I did some reasearch and I bought a new EGR valve and a new DPSC (?) solenoid. I installed the solenoid and cleared the code on Saturday. It seems once put the new solenoid on, the idle would fall really low when the truck came to a stop. Anyway, after about 30 miles, the engine light came on again.
So, yesterday, I put the new EGR valve on and replaced the new solenoid with the old one trying to trouble shoot the problem. I cleared the code again and you guessed it...the friggen light came on again this afternoon. I went to have the code read again and the machine spit put the same PO401 and PO455. I'm at my wits end, tonight I put the new solenoid and made sure the new EGR valve was tightly mounted. Any ideas or suggestions? This feels like a simple fix to me but I don't want to haul it to the dealer. Money is tight right now and I'm trying to stop at the $135 invested in parts so far. Thanks for your suggestions.
Did you fix your problem? I'm having the same issue. I replaced EGR valve, Pressure sensor, DPFE solinoid, cleaned the intake plenium (it was full of gradu) and now I've pulled the charcoal canister to see if it has anything to do with it. It had some dirt in it and looked as if the sensor attached there was loose. I'm hoping that is the problem but if you had a solution I'd like to hear it.
I just took it to the dealer last night. The 0455 code was a stupid mistake on my part, I left a vacuum hose disconnected. The 0401 problem is going to cost me $265 to get the ports cleaned out. If I had it to do all over again, I would have removed the intake plenum and cleaned it myself. It's worth a try for $6 for the gasket and $3 for the cleaner. Sure beats $265. Good luck.
