newbie things

I was still asleep when I tried to post this earlier and put it in the wrong forum. whoops...

So, I got this unbelievable offer on my beloved Bronco that I couldn't pass up. I figured there was only one place to go from there....UP!! So picked up a 96 F-350 4x4 crew cab LB 7.3L PSD. I love this thing. The day after I bought it, I drove it from San Antonio to Columbia, SC. It was such a nice drive. Now that I have had it for a minute a couple of things concern me.

1.) A priority. It does not have a rear Lic plate light. A must in Texas. There is a housing, but there is no wiring going into it. I know that the Trailer harness doesn't work, cuz I had to tow the wife's car home the day I bought the truck and I ended up having to buy the brake light bulbs with the wiring cuz I didn't have time to trouble shoot the harness. So I can't wire into that thing until I replace it. The question is where do I wire this light for the now? I don't think that I can do it to the brake lights cuz wouldn't the light get brighter when I hit the brakes?

2.) not so much the priority, but need to fix anyway. The 4WD doesn't work. I know that the auto hubs have gone out, the same happened on my Bronco. I am gonna replace with some Warn premiums when I get it back to Texas. But would that account for the steering to feel like it is engaged in 4WD on sharp turns. let me clarify...When I make sharp turns, like into parking spaces and such, the steering wheel pulls back. It feels like I have the 4WD engaged on pavement. Only diference is that is doesn't pull quite as hard as it would if it was engaged. I hope that makes sense. oh here it is.....if the amount it would pull back on pavement in 4WD was a 10...mine actually pulls like a 5. Seewhutimsayin'. I know, for a fact, that the transfer case is NOT engaged, I have checked again and again on that.

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

PS. how would I change my name on here? is that possible? Since I don't have the OJ Bonco anymore.

With Q no 2, that may just be your LSD in operation, when make sharp low speed turns the rear LSD can make the steering pull. Get someone to check the way the wheels spin while you are tuning, it should be visually noticable if the LSD is causing the issue, as the front wheels will tun slower than the rears, but both rear wheels should turn about the same speed. If you think it is a big issue, check the fluid in the rear axle, and make sure it is the right spec, I think it is a 75W140 with some friction modifier of the top of my head.

The park light wire is brown with no tracer. If the pigtail for the trailer pulug is gone you can tap in at the taillight, or anywhere else under the truck that you run into the all brown wire. The harness should be running down the driver side frame rail.

You say the hubs have gone out....did they fail in the locked position? Put the T-case in neutral and see if the front driveshaft will spin the axles by hand.

well, with the TC in 2hi, I can spin the front driveshaft. So, I know that the fron spins free. I will check on the LSD as soon as I figure out that it is

I will aslo take a peek at the brown wire that was spoken of. I found a housing jjust like the one that is in the rear bumber. It looks like it has just one wire....just to clarify, that one wire would tap into that brown wire that you spoke of, right?

Thanks alot!

edit: just had the light go off.....LSD limited slip differential...got it.

Those hubs still might be locked up, which would give the symptons you describe. If you look behind either front wheel, you will see a u-joint for the axle shaft. If the hubs are UNLOCKED, you should be able to turn the axle shaft (at the u-joint) by hand. If the hub is in the unlock position, and the axle shaft wont spin, then the hubs are stuck. This happend to me. When you put in the WARN's, dont forget to plug the vacuum lines that activate the auto hubs.
