Thought the fuel guage was broken as we had 120 miles and it had not come off full. Was heading to a horse show Friday from Fairbanks to Anchorage, filled tank prior to trip. Results: 122 miles on 4 gallons of fuel!
Trip down was normal, 18-19mpg.
Last night: 380 miles on less than half a tank. (Will get exact measurements on Wednesday when I fuel). This is figuring to be a 700 to 800 mile tank.
Truck: May 03, 6.0L F-350, 29,000miles
Stanadyne added every other tank.
If you fill up the tank to the top of the filler neck, I will see 130+ before it gets off the full mark and then go down quick. tn mac and I agreed on something!
The trick to mileage is to fill the tank to the same level each time. Then there are all kinds of variables that will affect mileage.

You mean, like....your foot?
For me, thats not even really a "variable", more of a "constant"...
A constant vacuum cleaner effect by means of the fuel lines
My 03/04 and 99 fuel gauges both do the same as yours, usually on the first 1/4 of a tank I will get 200 miles then at 1/2 a tank it reads 350 to 400 miles, then it starts to drop alittle faster and I end up getting around 650 miles maybe a bit more till i get nervous and fuel up. The last time I calculated it I got 18 the first tank and 19.5 on the second tank on the same trip to VA. That was in late Feb with 4500 miles on the 03/04. One day if I dont chicken out I'll try and see just how far it will go on a tank. Its nice with these trucks being able to drive from RI to Richmond VA. without fueling up. Mine should be able to go 725 miles if I'm getting 19. Take care, John

Anyone else have this happening?
No trailer, just srw long bed.
I have been getting around 26 - 28 mpg. I just bought the car 3 weeks ago. I put 1600 miles on it and I think Ive only filled up 3 times. I cant belive this. Ive been reading about all these people getting really bad mpg's and here I am. Im scared, but happy all the same.

How are you calculating your mileage? 26-28 mpg in a car is reasonable, but a 6.0L is unbelievable. I hope you really are, but I suspect inconsistency on your fillup method, calculation method or you are going by the overhead lie-o-meter.
We average 18-19 on the daily commute. We saw this once before with this truck, it likes the long trips. Total trip will probably average 23-24mpg. (That is down and back: flats, mountains, steep grades, etc. averaging 65mph).
Just thought we would put a positive in since most see the negatives about mpg.
Going Alaska to Kansas in a couple weeks, will see how it does.

Where in Alaska to where in Kansas. I've lived in both places and have driven from Florida to Kansas then Kansas to Alaska while in the Air Force. Alcan Hwy at breakup is a not so good time. But it was an awesome experience.
I was talking to another 6.0 owner at the pumps and the stupid gas nozzel didn't stop and I had a minor fuel spill, the recourse was the fuel was all the way up to the top of the cap. I headed down to Wichita Falls, TX and I could not believe what was going on with my fuel gauage. I haven't had that happen again. You probably did the same thing I did. Later
