I just finished a @#$%# of a job of replacing the rotors on 2000 AWD expy. A week later the ABS lights comes on. The light will not come on after start up until I remove my foot from the brake. I have checked fuses and fluid level but am lost past that. Is there anything I can check myself before I take it to the mechanic?
I talked to a guy from autozone yesterday to ask if they can run a diag on the ABS and he stated that they can only run a test on engine codes. Does this sound correct I do not know much about engines but I have corrected these "kids" a few times
I know of people who have had their ABS codes read at AZ, it was on a Monte Carlo but that should not matter. I know most scanners can do it. Now if they have a policy, that is another thing. You could always ask someone higher up the chain, manager.
You used to need a special scanner to read the airbag codes. Maybe that is what he was thinking about and he was mistaken.
Another option is to play dumb, go in saying a check engine light came on and have them pull the codes. See if any are present. Then ask if maybe an ABS code was triggered.
You may need to use a voltmeter to test if the sensor still works. I've heard that they can't pull ABS codes at Autozone either. Regardless, the sensor that goes in tthe top of your pumpkin is about $20. If you replace it, make sure you reset your computer. FYI I had the same prob and it was a bad solder on the ABS module that was fixed under warranty.
