Thanks for that titbit. I very sure there is no vaccum leak, but will check agian. This is the fourth reman carb that has been put on it. About every week after changing the first one,I had to keep taking it back to the store. Finialy the fourth worked for a while. Now it is back to the same crappy running.
Have you checked out your fuel delivery system? Do you have good pressure? It sort of sounds like you have crud comming through the gas line and clogging up the inlet valve on the carb.
The fuel pump is new,and when I take the fuel line off the filter it shoots gas a mile. The filter is about 3months old. Could this need changed agian? Or is there some way to tell it needs changed besides the obvuose way? P.S. tighting the carb down helped some. The bolts must have loosened up over time. Thanks agian.
brian the best way i have found to find vac leaks (external) well it aint mine its an old one is to use a UNLIGHT propane torch do not light it just crack the valve on the clinder and run it slowly around the vacumn booster(checking for leaks) around the lines , carb base, egr, intake manifold etc when your tip is over an area and the rpm increases you have found a leak if you move too fast just trace back to make sure
the reason propane is like adding added fuel to an engine
Why keep on telling him to find vacuum leaks? His problem is the carb, pure and simple. If he'd told us this is the 4th remanned carb in the original post, this thread would have been finished long ago.
It is now popping like those bang snaps you throw on the sidewalk when you floor it. It stops intil you get to about 45 to 55 mph.Between these speeds it sounds more like a machine gun. What is this new problem anyone know?
No, it is the original motor, and has 112000 orignal miles on it. I am the 2nd owner. The guy I bought it off of drove it 10 miles aday, thats it. No more or no less. When I bought it it ran like a top.I tried to fix it up and make it run better, but it never worked. Now i have this problem, and don't know how to fix it. ANY MORE IDEAS? PLEASE!!
I for one say get rid of that junk reman. carb. They are terrible. I think scroob's suggestions have been the best. Make sure the carb is down tight and there are no leaks coming from the carb base gasket or the spacer to manifold gasket. By the way, what type of gasket did you put between the spacer and the manifold?
If you're not getting any vacuum leaks...then point to the carb. I'm getting the feeling you might be overlooking the real problem.
i would toss that junker carb. as much as i dont like them, get yourself a 2bbl holley or switch over to a 4bbl intake (best idea) and get an edelbrock. another way to check for leaks if you dont care about the paint on the intake is spray carb cleaner along the base of the carb. if you notice any difference in RPM's, theres you leak.
