I would like to see FORD MOTOR Co. challenge Nascar to a factory built
engine race . Lets put the STOCK back into stock car racing . Everyone
gets a crated engine from the factory and uses it in their race car . IF
it blows during quallifying let them go get another crated engine and start
from the rear like they do now .
I would take it a step further. Have the 4-banger class with Civics vs. Focus and only factory options. Could you imagine hearing the announcer: "Look out, the number 43 Focus has just rolled up his window and is closing in on 82 mph!!!" That would be cool. Make everyone run full interiors with A/C.
I don't think they should have crate engines. Make them use STOCK CARS. I think that's what's wrong with Nascar. Come on, no Taurus looks like that nor goes 200+ mph. No car today uses a carb either. It would be nice to see races with Mustangs, GTOs, Corvettes, Vipers, Crown Vics, and whatever that new Dodge HEMI car is named. Not only would it be cool to see actual street cars on the track, but it would be a good judge of how reliable cars really are.
MINI car races would be different,,, although i would rather strip them down for fire
reasons .
A complete off the showroom floor car to race with ,,, sounds like something back
from the middle 1960's .
Dont know if the Taurus SHO model could do 200 mph,,, or the Crown Victorias in
a police package,,, the mustang,,,maybe I have not been watching this very much.
NASCAR would have a fit with the template to keep these all alike and there lies
the problem along with the restrictor plate .
I think a factory built car would have problems with how the race tracks are built
????
Who cares about a template? They should treat it like a showroom open track day. Not only would it make for exciting races with guys in basically everyone's mom's car trying to haul booty, but it would also benefit the consumer more by giving us special edition cars that we've all come to know, like the Road Runner Superbirds and the Boss 429 Mustangs. Part of the problem with NASCAR is that you can't really differentiate the cars until you see the nose up close or recognize the color of the car. It would be more exciting water cooler talk to here some guy go "See, I told you that your Toyota Echo was no match for my Kia Spectra" or "Did you see the way that Crown Vic plowed right through that Lexus and kept right on going?" or "Could you believe that dork in his Acura TSX really thought he could make the corkscrew going that fast?"
If people had a way to relate NASCAR to their own cars, they'd be more involved in it.
Add roll bars and other basic safety equipment, like stock car racing used to be. Then I'll go back to watching. Each brand should be only modified so that the cars are safe to race in. Engines, pure stock...the way they came from the factory. Front wheel drive, rear wheel drive...make the different classes. Let's get true automotive competition back and to heck with politically correct and track owner biased racing. If you can build a better, faster car, then more power to you.
Maybe someone ,,, "???" should host a race of their own simular to nascar but
without the rules that spoil the fun of raceing .
Everyone has some good ideas here,,, wonder if anyone higher up is paying attention?
Ya know what would be cool? Im an old truck freak and I think it would be cool to race old halfton STOCK trucks. Also classic vintage cars too. They need to race real world cars not the crap they are right now what a joke and bore!
And there shouldn't be any spoilers or any kind of body kit to be put on the vehicles. They should maintain stock ride height as well. I agree with Fordlover1951, they should only be modified to be safe, such as roll cages and fuel cells.
Part of the problem is what happened to DE, Jr. this weekend---he almost got roasted alive in a Vette. Stock cars don't have near the safety features necessary to be racing them at close to their top speeds. Their safety features are designed for 65ish or less.
I could see something with stock body (unibody), stock engine, manual (or stock) tranny, then lose all the interior garbage, and add a driver cage.
Although, it might be a little funny to see some guys trade a little paint and have an airbag go off....
No way, you have to keep the interior, that's what would be even more interesting. Make them prove that their windows still work, too. Treat it like a DMV test and force them to show the blinkers work as well.
I think that it's everyone's whining about safety that turned NASCAR into the uniform bunch of cars that it is today. Don't get me wrong, safety is a good thing, but nobody is forcing these people to drive--it's a choice.
It's kind of like hockey. Remember back in the day when all the goalie had was a Jason mask without a helmet? Or when football players had nothing but a leather hat? That takes some *****, not like the players today. They're wrapped up so much I think they could be shot and not feel it. It's like watching the knights of the round table out there.
The old timers didn't get paid millions of dollars either. They drove because they loved to. Well, Junior Johnson made some good loot bootlegging. I can't stand the pampered babies of today. A real stock car series would be cool.
73Fastbackv10 I dont think you will get any takers willing to drive suicide cars with
full glass windows and interior intact with no structural reinforcements.
Those are what we drive everyday .
I would do it, so would other. It's like "Fear Factor" or people who do Xtreme sports. It's a thrill. I didn't say no structural reinforcements. I said put a roll cage and a fuel cell in there.
Seeing what we drive everyday is what would make it worth watching. It's like when someone you know or a place you frequently go to is on the news. You watch it because you can relate to it. When I see a race on T.V. that is taking place at Laguna Seca or Infineon Raceway, I am more likely to watch because those are the tracks that I go to on a frequent basis.
Not a lot of people care about watching a bunch of template based vehicles with basically the same engine set ups running around in circles. Every race car looks the same, sounds the same, races the same. That's no fun. That's like communiting in a Corolla and seeing nothing else but Corollas on the road with you.
