Relays
Why do i need a relay? I am installing a remotecontrol for my door locks and there are three different configurations. positive, negative, or reverse polarity. I have reverse polarity and need a relay for open and a relay for close. Is there a simple explanation. Not much of an electrician..thanks..

A relay is a remote switch. It is used when the switch (your remote control module) is not strong enough to carry the current load of the locks. So the module triggers the relay to switch the power on (or off). If you tried to wire it up directly to the module without the relays, the high current draw of the locks would burn out the module...
