Well, here I am again I was leaving the parking lot of the store when the truck stalled out. I put it in neutral, fired it up and made it another 10 feet or so before it stalled out again. I was never able to get it started again. I thought maybe it was from running too hot but we've replaced the thermostat and still it tries to start but no go. Are the next logical steps the fuel filter and then fuel pump? I knew when I bought the truck that I was in for alot of learning but this one kinda caught me off guard. I've had it start to stall on me before but it was always because I needed to switch tanks. I know there's gas in him still so that can't be it. Almost forgot Where is the fuel filter on a 78 f150? my chilton's manual isn't very specific about where it's at.

Fellro86 is right, with the factory Motorcraft 2 barrel carb, the filter is a small cylinder that screws into the carb and the fuel line screws into the filter. Before you do anything, look down the carb and move the throttle (with key off of course). Do you see two streams of gas squirting down the carb? If you don't then it is a fuel problem - If you do see fuel then it's not a fuel problem.
I think you should check your fuel pump and filter. You might also have a vaccum leak somewhere. Be sure to check your carb and make sure it is clean and working smoothly. I've had a problem similar to yours and it seemed to help doing those things.
The 2100 model 2 barrel has the fuel filter screwed into it. The 2150 model 2 barrel (which is most likely what you have) has it connected into the rubber fuel line going to the carb, same as with a 4 barrel.
Well guys this is the update. So far I've put in a new fuel filter, no luck there. I went back and bought a mechanical fuel pump, put it in but I don't think we have it seated right. We still aren't getting any gas to the carb. We'll try again tomorrow after the weather's cleared. I'm hoping that is going to be it. I'll let ya'll know!
