97 Explorer Steering Colum Electrical Problems
About a year ago, my windshield washer quit working unless the turn signal (either direction) were on. Lived with it. Now, my chimes come on when I open the drivers side door (as if the keys are in the ignition, when they are not). This sounds like a short to me but wanted some advice before I tear in. Anyone else had this type of problem before and some advice on where to look and how to fix? p.s. I have a drivers side airbag...

Windshield wiper problem sounds like the multi-function switch (MFS) located at the end of the turn signal stalk. Common problem with Explorers. Door chime problem doesn't sound related. Be sure to disconnect the battery before working on the steering column. Accidental deployment of your air bag would pretty much ruin your day.
