97 PS Which Mod Next?

I recently pulled my 13k lb travel trailer in to the Ozark mountains and am wondering if I can get a little more power safely. I didn't get over 1120 on my exhaust at full throttle while slowly loosing RPM before downshifting. I think I have all current mods listed on my sig. "Although my exhaust is modded, I am still running the stock cat. "I didn't seem to run very much boost, maybe max of 12lb while towing." But truck seems to respond well. I can hear turbo spool. I am wondering if an aftermarket turbo housing with a waste gate would help. What are some of your ideas?

I would think that you should be seeing a little more boost than that - that doesn't sound very high considering you have a chip. I would think you could get more air into the motor with a full aftermarket intake kit than just the drop-in filter in the stock airbox - the stock box is not exactly known for flowing a lot of air. I don't know about the turbo but I do know that an aftermarket housing WITH a wastegate is not gonna help (the wastegate part anyhow) as a wastegate bleeds off boost and does nothing to help your performance. That's why us Superduty guys are disabling/disconnecting our wastegates - to grab a little more boost.

Overall - I'm not as familiar with the older PSD's as much as the newer ones - but if you can run it hard and only get 1120* on the pyro (I HOPE you are talking pre-turbo temps and not post-turbo) you are running in a very safe range for power and don't run the risk of blowing stuff up. With those temps you could get a hotter (higher HP) chip and get more power - but you'll also be running higher EGT's and watching the gauges more to keep it safe - which is what some of us are doing most of the time.

Txsilverado - I agree with CAT_man_963, you should be seeing more boost numbers then 12lbs especially since its been chipped, i would look into that some more. On the turbo housing issue, i do know that the garret turbo housing is like a 1.2 and that is alot of room for air but banks sells a 1.0 quick turbo housing that is supposed to up the power. If your wanting a new housing go to banks, but dont buy a wastegate, they're basically turbo govenor's. Nice to see you have an intercooler, that helps keep temps down a whole lot, but you will probably see more boost if you were to loose that 15lbs of plastic, restriction device ford calls an airbox. I have heard of people having problems with drop in filters in the stock box, they said they had problems with the box sealing around the filter element, some reported seeing parts of the compressor wheel fins missing due to the junk getting through the airbox, just a heads up. if you do decide to get a bigger chip, which wouldn't be a bad move seeing how you arent running very hot in the EGT's, i would be interested in buying your banks chip if you were to get rid of it, as i have a 75 horse T.T.S. power chip right now and am looking to get a slight bigger size. hope this helps, and get back to me on what you decide as there are plenty of little, in-exspensive mods that you can do that will greatly increase your trucks performance, so get back to me
