I am a recovering HEI-aholic and trying to deal with the ford duraspark system. I have an engine that I am trying to rebuild with no distributor. What do I need for a complete duraspark ignition system? Where is the best place to find it all?
If you're a recovering HEI-aholic; have you looked into the DUI Distributors. They have the HEI concept. I don't yet have one myself, but I soon will. If you where to do a search on "DUI" here, you will get many good post for this dist.
I saw and liked all of the things that the DUI distributors were, but I wanted to spend around $100 for a complete system, not $350. I have heard that the Duraspark can be a decent system, but I am completely unfamiliar with it.
I have also heard that a regular points distributor with a pertronix or mallory points conversion kit can work, but again.. I am starting with nothing, so I have no idea which is a better system from scratch, or which would be easier/cheaper to put together.
all you need is the distributor and the control module box, and some wiring. it should do you just fine if you have a stock or mild engine , if your looking for more high performance i suggest the msd dist and box.
Max, you need to go junkyard scrounging for the wiring. The rest can be bought at your local parts store. The '75 and '76 FE had the Duraspark ignition. Look for those years and it will have the Dura. The dizzy is FE specific, the module and wiring are not, so that gives you more options to look for those parts. The module you want will have a blue wire grommet.
