Are you changing to 12v or 6v? The starter and fan motor will still run the same but will they will spin faster at 12v. If 12v change light bulbs. If 12v need to have generator rebuilt.
A simple book that would help if converting to 12v
Hi,
I just converted to 12 volt early this year in my 1951 f1 and I knew nothing about the subject before hand. I found a book at Speedway Motors in Lincoln, Nebraska that was a very simple and easy to understand. I know others sell that book too but not sure who. Don't remember the exaqct name of the book (more like a small pamplet) but its is easy to find and great to have on the job as you convert.
Hope I was helpfull.
The motors (starter and fan) don't turn the wrong way when the polarity is changed because they are not permanent magnet motors. Reversing the polarity on the armiture also reverses the polarity on the field and , viola, they turn the same direction. This is true with most small motors, DC and single phase AC.

Great that answers that question, I am thinking about a 6 volt positive ground to a 12 volt negative ground conversion. I would have the stock generator rebuilt and change out the bulbs. Then make a voltage regulator for the gauages and fuel tank sending unit. Hopefully I can find a Pertonix Ignition and won't have to worry about the ballast resistor.
