proper pcv set up

What is the proper pcv set up? The pcv valve screws into the valve cover and a hose goes from the val ve cover to the air filter? This is a 1918 f150 inline 6 cyl.

I am burning alot of oil

please help

thanks

Thats sounds about right. You shouldn't be burning any oil from the PCV system, though, I would think. I would suspect worn piston rings or old valve guide seals. Have you tried any stop leak products in your oil yet? Also, how many miles are on your engine? Also, how do you know its burning oil? Discolored exhuast, or are you just low every few weeks?

The PCV valve should be in the back of the valve cover and the line from the PCV will run to the vacuum tree in the side of the intake manifold. In the front of the valve cover is the oil fill cap. If the cap has a grommet, it should have a hose to the air cleaner breather element. There should not be any valve in the line from the cap to the breather element.

Just make sure the PCV system isn't the source of any vacuum leaks. Something as simple as a bad sealing gasket under the oil filler cap or torn/ old/ worn PCV valve grommet can create enough of a vacuum leak to cut performance, but, it’s not going to make it suck in enough oil to be noticeable.
