I purchased what i believe is a 64 f250 with a 223 I6. I wanted to change the oil but when looked up the filter, it called for a ph8 fram, which is a spin on filter, and the filter on the engine is an internal reusable case kinda filter. What filter do i want? thanks,
aaron
Try some different filter catalogs. Or, if you are not trying to keep the truck exactly original, I believe there are spin on conversion kits (make filter changes a lot less messy and gives you an anti-drainback valve).
You probably do have the 223, but there were some 262s put in the '64s. Either way, check with the folks in the '61-'66 Ford Trucks forum at this site. They will likely know exactly what you need to do. This forum on inline sixes is about 99.9% the 300 cid inline six.
An AC PF-210 will fit your cannister. TallPaul is right about the spin on conversions. I have it on my '58 223 and it sure makes life easier, seems to have improved the engine oiling too. I'm surprised a '64 would have a cannister, I thought Ford used spin-on by then. Maybe it had a heavy duty oil filter option or something.
I concur with TallPaul and manglass. The cartridge filter system can be upgraded with a spin on adapter kit. I upgraded my 1963 223 with one from Dennis Carpenter - no more leaks.
