My First Post
Everyone here is great and I really like this group.
I am restoring a 78' F-150 Supercab 2wd/XLT/Ranger/460/C6. I got it about six months ago. It’s all there and the body is straight. I bought it for only $550. I live in Tucson, AZ so body & undercarriage rust isn’t an issue. I’ve wanted to restore one of these (78 or 79 2wd Supercab 460) for at least ten years. I’m 29 now. I must have looked at 10 of them before I found ‘the right one’.It has Factory A/C, cruise, and the locking hood release. Also has racetrack molding <!(which I am going to remove)>. The truck didn't run when I bought it because the distributor drive gear was sheared off. The folks I purchased it from decided that fixing the engine was going to cost more than they were willing to invest in what they saw as an ‘old work truck. They also left the hood opened and some rain got into the intake etc and rusted out the carb and valley pan.
The truck had generic headers on it, but I went back to factory exhaust manifolds. Something interesting on the headers was that they were NOT fender well exit. They hugged the engine really close (touched the motor mounts) and were about 1/32” from resting on the C6 cross member. They appear to be ones that someone got from a car and welded directly to the pipes (no collectors).I had the C6 rebuilt stock with an OEM spec torque converter. I’ve rebuilt the engine and added a few upgrades. The transmission wash shot and had a broken primary roller.
My personal web page has all the specifics of the truck and all the stuff I’ve added to the motor.
It also has a photoshop picture of what I would like the truck to look like someday.
The web adddress is http://my78.vanhoesen.net
I’ll post pics in my gallery when they become available. I have some pics of my 91’ F150 in my gallery.
Wish me luck! I look forward to being more active in the group.
I have the engine (460) back in the truck. I noticed that the engine is further over to the passenger side, apparently so that power steering box and brake lines can fit on the drivers side frame rail. Or atleast its what I am hoping, as it is the Its the same engine I pulled (the factory 460) and the engine mounts only go on one way.
If I stoop down and look at the hood striker vs. the cnter of the air cleaner it looks like its offset about 2".
Has anyone else noticed this? Does this cause the trucks to pull to one side when driving?
Mike
