straight axle conversion question

i want to put a Dana 60 in my front and take out the Dana 50 on my 95,250.but i have a question.since my lift kit is for a 250 will i have to buy new springs in the front for a 350? or can i keep it the way it is? some guy told me ill have to buy an f 350 lift kit for the front and take out what i have but I wanted to check here first. I know it will raise my front a few inches but how do I make it level with the rear of the truck? Thanks...

If you have a standard (4 to 6") lift kit on your '95 IFS F-250, you will be able to reuse the front leaf springs when you install the straight axle. You should be able to use the dropped pitman arm too. I think that the drop brackets for the front stabilizer bar will work with the monobeam axle - may be wrong on that one. The front shocks should work too.

The rear end lift components should not need to be changed unless you want to modify rear end height when you finish with the front end.

You will need a different front drive shaft (one from and F-350) and a replacement front transfer case yoke from an F-350. If your F-250 has a replacement front driveshaft with the CV joint at the transfer case end, you will not need to change anything.

Depending on the lift height, you will need a track bar extension bracket too.

All of the above assumes that you have the stock suspension components (track bar, etc) from a donor F-350.

Opinion. If you would be happy with a 4 to 6 inch lift and 33 or 35 inch tires, the Dana 50 IFS will work well. My '95 f-250 IFS has provided 115K trouble-free miles with a 4" Skyjacker lift. I use it for moderate off-roading and heavy duty towing.

If you do go with a straight front axle, life will be easier if you can locate a donor vehicle where you can get both the axle and the rest of the components.

Your Dana 50 should hold up OK until you add air locking to the front differential. An F-250 is a fairly heavy beast will put a lot of stress on the front driveshaft and u-joint yokes when locked - especially in a tight turn. Even a straight axle could break u-joints when run hard in a turn.

The 10.25" rear end should stand up well with an air locker installed and your 39" tires.

Connecticut does not seem to have any real demanding off-road locations so a front air locker isn't really needed. I'm located in the Northwest corner of the state where off-roading is possible. Mud, tree stumps and steep hills are common around here. There are swampy areas too, but F-250's and swamps do not go well together. Good ground clearance and decent tires are all one really needs to go about anywhere in Connecticut. Rear lockers would help too.
