My starter went out on my van today (88,302) so I fitted another & a new solenoid at the same time. Van cranks but will not start, strong smell of gas. Play it some more, eventually put the old solenoid back in & still no start.
Fusible link? Anyone know which one so I can try? I have to get to work on Monday!
I was planning on taking the TFI to AutoZone to test tomorrow, just in case, but that would be one hell of a coincidence.
The only thing I did was replace the starter & solenoid...
yours is similar to mine, any chance you can take me a picture of your solenoid (if yours is also fender mounted) so I can see if I messed up.
I have a 94 E150 351HO that does the same thing about once a week. It will crank until the battery is dead but won't fire. The dealer has had it for 2 months now and has replaced the ignition module and fuel pump but it still has the same problem. There are no trouble codes associated with this on my van.
It was indeed the TFI that had gone out at the same time as the starter. You need thinwall deep 7/32 socket to get it off... unfortunately I jumped a tooth putting the distributor back on *waaaah* Some stunningly loud backfires though LOL
