f150 ranger needs some work
I hope you guys can help me out. I have a 1981 ford f150.
My main problems are
1) Gas tank clogged . I have taken the gas tank apart and cannot find anything clogging it. I can only put about 1/10 of a galon of gas in at a time. i am thinking of using the rear gas . However, it is not hooked up and I am wondering if it feeds off gravity into the main one. What could be clogging the main tank line and should I & how do I use the rear one instead.
2) Oil leak at the back of the oil pain where tranny meets. I think this is a rear main seal. Any ideas how to being replacing this . I just replaced the oil pan gasket.
3) this is a 4 speed on the floor . it is very difficult getting into gears. I think its a manual clutch . There is not clutch cylinder that I can find. What is the problem with the clutch?
4) I am burning alot of oil. There is definetely blow-bi in the engine. Any ideas (aside from rebuilding) what I can do to reduce this? Any additives or suggestions?
5) The electrical system needs some work. None of the dash board instuments work. Radio occasionally works. And stays on when car is shut off. Does this mean it is wired directly to battery? What is the best way to fix instument panel?
Sorry for the long post, but I really need some help
thank you
The tanks are independant, not actually hooked to each other, the system you are thinking of was used on heavy trucks, but not on the light pickups.
2) sounds like rear main. How mechanically knowledgeable are you? I could walk you through it, but I want to know if it something you feel you could do or are willing to try. I'm pretty sure it is still a 2 piece, which can be tricky to do in frame, but I have had many go easily (relatively)
3) follow before mentioned advice
4) the only real fix for blowby is rebuild, but if you run a little slower, it will help, as higher rpms make for more blow by, you can try cleaning up the engine a bit by running trans fluid through the crank case, but it also can increase your poblem too by removing the glazing on the cylinder walls. Check your PCV valve, it could be plugged as well.
5 First, check fuses, then next will require removal of the dash, you need to check the ground, and the contacts in the plug to the dash. Be certain you have power to the instrument cluster. Your voltage regullator may have puked as well, things to check.
