Hurricane stories!!!!!
When hurricane Floyd hit, I was putting my topper back on my '79 when it started pouring rain. I had to finish so I just kept at it until I was done (doing it by myself). Man did I got soaked!
Next morning, I was awakened by the sound of helicopters. They were flying very low, and hovering not far from my home. I turned on the news, and saw my neighboring town of Bound Brook N.J. completely under water. The local Harley shop was on fire, and the firemen were fighting the fire from boats!
I ran into one gentleman at the store who told me his story....
He was sound asleep, until He heard a knock at the door. He got up and proceeded to go downstairs to answer it. He stepped on the first stair tread, and his foot was in 8" of water.
That's when he realized the knock was not at the door, but rather the 2nd floor window. It was a guy in a boat trying to help rescue people. He opened the window and stepped into the boat.
My favorite Sunoco station had water up to the roof.
Man, that storm was devistating!
Back in the day when I was in college...
Got an invite over the summer to go to a "friends" parents "camp" (parents were not there - my parents just knew I was "out" -- WooHoo !)
so 3 couples load up and drive from LSU down to a place I didn't know anything about... but sounded like fun... Looking forward to a NICE week on the beach...
Little disappointed that the "camp" was not on the gulf side, had to drive to it each day from the east side of the inner bay ... but it was a NICE houe we were in !
Well, after days of too much of everything (except tv and radio )...
we all had had enough and decided to head back early since we were all burnt and tired... had actually crashed the night before about 10:00 pm we were so worn out...
I woke up early - or so I thought because it was so dark... but it was just overcast and really cloudy so I told everybody lets head back - I'll drive while you all sleep--- when we got back to school I decided to go visit my parents and my Dad's watching the news...
They're showing pics of the I-90 bridge we had gone across many times during our stay which was within 5 miles of where we stayed... It was about 20 to 30 feet deep in trees and debris.... I don't remember the girls name.... but I remember even as a college doofus THAT picture!

Georges scared my wife, mother-in-law and I so much we packed our junk, and spent 15 hours fleeing to Tyler, TX. Danged storm hooked up into the Mississippi Gulf Coast, after almost 30 hours of being on a direct course for St. Bernard Parish. Boy, were WE TICKED!
When I was in south Losing-Annie, I used to be tickled PINK when all my preparation was wasted !
Heck with Audrey, we went to my Aunt's georgeous dairy farm in Osyka, Miss... to hide...
We had our motorhome plugged in at her "Sandy beach" which was about 30 ft up from the small creek bed and SO MUCH rain brought the water right up to our motorhomes step....
When it was over, we had to four wheel it out... her pasture was now a sandy beach !
It did more damage there then at our house in Baton Rouge !!!!
