I have a 93 f150 5.0L with an E4od tranny. Trouble is the tranny spews fluid from the front main seal. It pours out from the small access hole in the bottom of the bellhousing. I have changed the seal 2 times ( thought maybe I screwed up the first time ) and it starts leaking real good as soon as I start it up. What different possibilities are there that is causing this leak and can a parts changer like me fix it. I do not want to drop the tranny again without getting some more info.
No the plug is in the torque converter. Could a problem with the converter cause this type of flow coming out or would it more likely be internal to the tranny? Thanks.
I think i have the problem, at least this is what happened to me...
i had a front seal leak, i got low on fluid, and drove it home,
about 45 miles, low on fluid.
Well, i took the tranny out, replaced the seal, it still leaked.
i took the New seal out, went to the Parts store,
yelled at the dude for giving me the wrong seal,
put on another new seal, and it still leaked.
OK
i took the tranny out, and took it to a Tranny Guy,
guess what, the TC had a Grove in it, right where the seal sits,
via = Leak!!!!!!!
That sounds alot like what is happening to me, I may just try changing the tc next weekend. If that does not work my only other option will be to pay the MAN big bucks to fix it for me. Opening up a tranny seems a little beyond my skill level.
SSMike is correct. I forgot to mention that on my previous post but if the torque converter snout is scored, then the pump bushing are damage.
Don't second guess it. just replace it otherwise you'll ruined the replacment torque converter.
