Took my 04 SCREW LARIAT in to Pat Miliken Ford in Redford MI because it had a bad howling noise around 50-55MPH. They Did a road test and repaired and replaced the 9.75 " locking diff ***'y with disc brakes and replaced ring and pinion, pinion inner and outer bearings and cups, diff side bearings and cups, overhauled diff clutch packs with updat. I have no clue as to what all this stuff is but maybe it will help others with the same problem. Its written on the service report. So far so good. I will update if problem comes back. Also, my rental car was an 04 SCREW 4X4 XLT. The gave me an option between the truck, and escort or a focus. TOUGH DECISION!!! The car was in the shop for 1 and half days.
I have that howling noise and live near Ann Arbor. Can you take your truck to any dealer to get looked at or do you have to go where you bought it? If the dealer in Redford fixed yours, I'd like them to look at mine as well.
you can take your vehicle to any dealer that you want, at least where i live. i have found that the service is somtimes subpar at another dealer other than the selling dealer due to you didnt buy the vehicle from them.

Pat Miliken Ford in Redford has always been the best for service based on my past results. I bought cars from Varsity in Ann Arbor, Bill Brown in Livoina and based on past results Miliken is the best. If you take your truck to Miliken, be sure to make an appointment, and tell them that the problem is coming from the rear end. They told me that they have one tech that takes care of axle and rear end issues. I had to wait a few weeks prior to taking my truck in because the guy was on vacation. They reserved me a rental and it was in the shop for a day and a half. If it helps ask for FRED in service.
My whining noise started around 9k miles....at 10k miles they replaced the tranny and no more whine. It whined from the sec I accelerated and quit when I decellerated. I now have 18k on the truck and no whining, well sometimes my wife whines that it's to hard for her to get into but that's the normal spouse whine. HeHe!
