I have a 96 ranger that is having some shifting problems. When ever I shift into 2nd or 4th gear it's sometimes doens't want to go. If I shift out of 1st and 3rd and wait for a second to shift into 2nd and 4th gears it goes in much easier. I also hear what sounds like I have chains hanging and bouncing around from underneath my truck when I drive. Are these problems related or do I have two differenet problems going on here. Thanks
Ouch..... When was the last time you canged your trans fluid? If it has been a while you should do it. The stuff is cheap, and while you are at it you can check the level to see if it is low, if there are any leaks, metal chunks in the fluid, etc...... There are several threads on here that detail issues with the Ranger 5sp trans. Chances are it is a Mazda unit and it will suffer from one or more of the known weeknesses. After you are done with the trans, check the clutch fluid and operation. Detailed instructions can be found in a Chiltons or Haynes manual.
