96 Explorer harness doesn't light up trailer
Hey all:
I have a 96 Explorer. I believe it is with a factory tow. I found a harness in the left tail light and disconnected what it had--the license plate light. I put on the t-connector, set for a flat 4, plugged into my trailer and only got the lift tail light on the trailer. I put on the power tester and the only connection on the car harness that was getting juice was the one steady connector for the license plate. I've checked trailer wiring, grounds etc. When I first quickly wired it just to have turn and brakes they went. I'm I doing something in left field, is there another harness or is this not a factory tow package and I need another non-factory t-connecter? Help-

Umm, the license plate light is only one feed and it will illuminate whenever the lights turn on. You need to find the plug for the tail lights and splice into that one since it will have running / turn / brake lights in it. It should have 4 wires instead of just one, too...

There is another harness under the left rear behind the wheel. It should be a round connector with several connections. You need a pigtail to plug into this connector (it may already be there). The pigtail has the flat4 connector. You should not have to tap into any of your vehicles' wiring. I have this connector on both my 91 and 98 Explorers.
