body lift

I want to put a body lift in my truck but I don't know what to do with the tranny linkage. My truck is an 84 f-250 diesel with the c6. How can I make the linkage longer for a body lift?

cut in half and weld in a piece that is the correct length to get everything functioning correctly.....

What you can do is look to see what it looks like before the lift. Then buy threaded rod and eyelets from Home Depot that match the stock unit. Get the lift on and the linkage working by cutting the rod the ocrrect size, then take the old one to a machine shop and have them weld a new section to the old stuff to get it to the correct size. The threaded rod will last a while, though eventually it will fail.

If you get a performance accessories kit, they have a small length of rod in the kit for welding into the linkage. I found this out AFTER I cut my own piece and welded it in.

your linkage will be OK. ALL necessary parts for lowering/raising any compents properly should be included in the kit if it's a good kit. If anything it will just sit a little lower in the boot..NO BIGGY!

Stuck,

That's the t-case shifter (or manual trans shifter). I think he's talking about the linkage to from the steering column to the c6. There's no way around lengthening it.

My experience from (zinc) threaded rod from Home Depot is it fatigues easily and will break in 1/2 from the constant vibrations even though there is not much stress being put on it. Think of it like a cheap wire coat hanger being bent a couple of times real fast. My worse experience is I bought some for a plow for the markers on the edge of the plow blades and the 1/2 inch rod broke on each side before I even finished one lot. I would not use it at all for throttle linkage.
