Question Performance Calculators

Anybody ever use those 1/4 mile time/trapspeed/vehicle weight/hp calculators? There kind of driving me nuts! I'm trying to find my fwhp/rwhp without actually dyno testing the truck.

The variables I know are:
-weight
-1/4 time
-trap speed

Using the online calculators I'm coming up with ridiculously low hp numbers. The one that I can adjust for is altitude, assuming the times given @ are sea level, which I'm at 3500ft. The other factor it doesn't account for is co-efficient of drag loss.

I'm coming up with 310fwhp and 265rwhp. Which is quite pathetic. DD puts me at 413fwhp.

Are you running a C6 auto? I don;t think the calculators realize how much loss there is in those transmissions.

150hp lost through the drivetrain doesn't seem right. I'm thinking 17%, so 70hp.

I figure more like 25-30% for the auto tranny's. The dyno operator agreed. As a refernce mine posted 360 RWHP on a chassi dyno.
To DD's credit, it accuratley predicted where my HP would peak. So, if it's HP estimate is as accurate, I think DD showed mine is between 450-500 FWHP. That's a lot more than 17% difference. More like 25%.

Found this site.
http://www.prestage.com/Car+Math/default.aspx

1/4 time: 14.69 @ 3500ft
trap speed: 92mph
weight: 3950lbs

Corrected, I'm at 14.06@96mph. That gives me 277hp at the wheels. Nasty. 15% drivetrain loss is 320fwhp or 25% for the C6 gives me 370. Nasty.

2800 B&M stall.

Even a 99 Lightning comes out to 309rwhp, which sounds about right.
Just goes to show that all the go-fast goodies doesn't always cut it. Guess some blue-printing is required to get some efficiency. I was looking for atleast 1hp/ci.

Is anybody else getting 1hp or better out of the 390?

Anybody know if there are any indicators of horspower loss from a restrictive dual exhaust? This is the only thing I know could be improved.

Restrictive exhaust Is definately robbing you power. headers and 2.5 inch pipes through good mufflers will probobly get you aproximately 20 more horses.

Already have large tube blackjack headers and dynomax mufflers. The 2-1/4" exhaust just slipped my mind when I had the shop do them 10 years ago.

put some cut-outs in just behind the headers, keep the rest. Should be fine.
