Engine stops, like someone removed the idle
My 1999 X has a 4.0 that occasionally (usually in hot weather) stops running, like someone removed the stop for the idle. If you rest your foot on the throttle, the engine idles. I have to start the vehicle this way also.
I figure an oxygen sensor or vacuum.
I do not get any other signals, no engine light.

Better than average chance that it is your Idle Air Control valve. When it fails, your engine won't idle. It will die when you take your foot off the pedal. It is held on the top of your engine by two bolts and has one electrical connector on it. It takes about 5 minutes to swap and costs about $50 for the part at most automotive repair stores.
