So lastnight, I am driving down the road, turn my blinker on, and notice that my blinker gives me the solid light in the cab, so I just figure, "Okay, I have a bulb out" and continue on my way home from work, when I attempt to merge onto the highway, I turn my other blinker on, and notice that the OTHER one is giving me the solid light in the cab. So, being that this particular stretch is rather remote at this time of the day, I turn my lights but leave the parking lights on, and both sides are lit up. Then, I push my brakes, and watch both lights work in my mirror. Then, I turn the hazard lights on, and all four corners work??? What???
So I pull into the driveway, and check all the fuses in the cab, of course, they're all good. So I check in the distribution box, and once again, all good.
Any suggestions?? Nothing feels any differently in the column mounted switch.
If it were a flasher relay, I didn't think the hazards would work? Also, if it matters or not, I don't have any trailor hookups on the back the coulda shorted out.
Take a look at the wiring diagram for the turn signals & E-flashers & you will probably see that the only difference between the 2 circuits is in the multifunction switch. If thats the case you need a new multifunction switch. What are you driving?
If your Chiltons shows that you only have one flasher to operate turn signals AND emergency flashers (like my 95 Taurus) then you need to replace the multifunction switch. If you have 2 flashers, just replace the turn signal flasher. Not sure when Ford went to the single flasher setup. FYI, the turn signal lever is attached to the multifunction switch.
Yes, it's in the column, but if you have 2 flashers, just replace the turn signal flasher as Vin95 said. I dont have a wiring diagram for a 91, but my guess is that it still had 2 seperate flashers.
