Ford to Dodge
Okay, I have a F-100, 1969, 390, and 3 on the tree. I've considered going to a 4 speed but I don't think it'll help me on the top end. I just talked to a guy and he says I can have a Dodge 5 speed off of a 70 or 71 van. Will it work?

it could be made to work, but it probably would cost more than adding an overdrive unit to yours.
if you want an overdrive, find a 78/79 with a 3 speed+od. they are not real common, but they are out there. you have to be gentle with them also as they are not real strong.
or, the older models had a 3 sp +od that was operated by a cable and an electrical switch. those seemed to be alright, just kind of a pain to hook everything up correctly.
once you get them hooked up they work great though.
