91 explorer transmission replacement
The tranny im running in my explorer i asume is the stock 4wld transmission but at 150k its really starting to struggle going into reverse and it slips bad when 4x4ing. is this the early sign of a new tranny? If so i want to put a better one in that can take more abuse so if anyone knows of one that would bolt up to the stock 4.0L that would really help. thanks.

As far as I know, the A4LD is the only auto tranny that Ford had for the 4.0...the 5 speed manual was even weaker than the automatic. Might try one of those trannys that the T-Bird Super Coupe had on the 3.8 but I doubt bolt patterns would match. Maybe someone out there has an adapter plate to make it work. Real cool...
