I am beginning to think that my rings are worn but am not sure how this could be the case as the engine has only 7k on it after a rebuild with new pistons and rings and everything else inside too. I am having oil coming from the air box and I have just changed out the PCV. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to run the engine much because of some other work I am doing on it presently, so I am not sure if the new PCV will do the trick. The other thing I noticed when the engine is running is that if I pull the oil cap off it will spit smoke in a pattern. Every second a puff of smoke will shoot out of the nozzle. Is this another indicator of the engine wear. To my knowledge it has never done this before. I think my truck is getting back at me for not spending an outrageous amount of money on upgrades this year like I did last year. She better start behaving or I will put her stock tires back on!!!!
you can do a compression test. that will give you an idea. now you say its rebuilt but did the heads get messed with at all? if not you could have a valve issue like seats and such. give us a bit more info of what was done.
I bought the engine from a place called City Motor Supply out of San Antonio, TX. The heads, the block and the crank were all remanufactured using new internal parts (ie. pistons, camshaft, valves, etc. etc.) Does that help to diagnose better?
Unfortunately, I live in Iowa now and the engine warranty was only for a year. I will have to check but I know it has been at least a year and a half since I installed it. I paid around $1200 for it.
not a good break in oil. 10-40 or even 30w would have been better. i bet you rings have not seated properly and with low miles on the motor then running synthetics just not a good combo.
i dont believe lucas is compatible with full synthetics it is mineral based.most additives are bs anyway.lucas might be good stuff but all it is is thicker viscosity exactly what you do not want in a fresh motor with tight clearances on internal components.save lucas for high milage motors with large clearances. regards shovelhead1
