Greetings,
I am looking to do a Dana 44 to 60 front diff conversion and was wondering what year (if any) D60 would bolt right up or with minor mods. (I searched the forums and couldn't find real definite answers.)
My truck's a 1978 F250 Supercab 4x4, 351M. Just to make things difficult, the original owner special-ordered the truck with power drum brakes up front, because he didn't trust the new disc. From all my searches for front brake parts I've come to believe that the front diff is a '72 (or very close to there) D44 light-duty closed knuckle.
78/79 d60 will fit, not sure on the newer ones, easy to gure out by measureing your axle perch to perch and any D60 you find perch to perch, if they are the same, bolt in swap. If you get disc bralke, just get a master cylinder for a 78/79 with disc brake.
I believe the spring perches on all the later model 60's will work as well but the 78/79's are more desirable because of the kingpins whereas later model D60's went to ball joints. The pre-78 F-250s had a narrower frame and thus would need to have perches moved in.
