Synthetic Trans Fluid

I have a 2000 F250 with the V10 and automatic transmission. The truck has about 80,000mi and I have been tossing around the idea of switching to syntheitc transmission fluid(probally Mobil 1). But my concern is how do i know that i got out all of the old dino fluid. I know i can drain the pan , swich the filter, and drain the torque convertor, but what about the fluid in the lines? Will mixing synthetic and dino oil be a problem? Is synthetic really worth it? I do live in AZ, where i am always dealing with high tempratures and lots of hill climbing, so i thought that sythetic might be a good idea.

Thanks for all of the advice.

Beautiful area, Prescott AZ... Flagstaff isn't too shabby either! Anyway, IMO if the standard style tranny fluid has been working ok for you, I say stick with the same. Many people say that if you're going to synthetic, do it right off the bat and stick with it; same for non-synthetic. The commentary I've heard most about when it comes to synthetic fluids is their affect (help? hurt?) seals and gaskets. Might keep that in the back of your mind as you research the pro's and con's.

Just my $.02,
Daryl

I really have not had many problems with the dino fluid. I switch the engine to mobil 1 and was very pleased with the results (no more cold clatter). My main thought is with the ambient tempratures that the syth would not be a bad idea.

Any other comments would be great.

I'm pushing 122,000 miles on my original tranny. Using dino fluid, Wal Mart brand at that! Change it at every 30,000 miles. So far so good. My temps have never gotten higher than 185-190 degrees. Usually run about 165 in the summer. If you do want Synthetic then make sure it is Mercon compatable not Mercon V. If you drain the pan and converter, you'll get all but maybe 1 qt out. Good enough. At 80k I'd change the filter if you haven't already.

This method will change the fluid in the lines, too:
