need help instaled 8" frt springs and 7" rear springs with the 2" factory blocks and droped the drive shat center carrier down 2 1/4 " the drive shaft looks pretty straight. But still get a real bad vibration on take off could raising the rear a tottal of 9 " from stock throw the drive shaft out of balance ?
Technically, it shouldn't affect the "balance" of the driveshaft, but it definitely is affected by the "angle of the dangle" if you know what I mean. Many times, significant lifts require longer driveshafts to compensate for the gap created by the raising of the drive line from the tail of the tranny to the rear end melon. Your U-joints could be at such a severe angle that they are not rotating cleanly, thus resulting in friction. The friction is likely the "vibration" you are feeling when you drive.
This info is based solely on word-of-mouth info I've learned and a handful of threads I've read here and elsewhere. I'm sure many fellow FTE'rs can confirm, deny, or correct this info.
Sounds like we have similar lifts....If you do a search you will find a bunch of different topics...suggestions...and knowledge regarding this subject.
After I lifted mine it Shimmied and Vibrated like crazy. I got Superlifts carrier bearing drop bracket (instead of 10 shims) and it helped a lot. It's bearable now and I almost don't notice it.
Some folks in here moved to a one piece drive shaft, some just re-balanced the 2 piece but there's a bunch of different suggestions.
I have a link for a 35 page article on the subject of proper driveline angle....here it is...
Thanks Kadukoboy for the info tomorrow i am going to take it done to a drive line shop and see if they can try to re balance it. I cant miss another night from work so hope they can fix it in one day.
It's probably the length and the angles - not the balance. I only have two inches of lift in the rear and the one piece shaft is lengthened 1 1/8", balanced, front and rear u-joint operating angles matched at 6.5 degrees and I still have some high speed vibration.
Thanks Kadukoboy for the info tomorrow i am going to take it done to a drive line shop and see if they can try to re balance it. I cant miss another night from work so hope they can fix it in one day.
OK... don't say that Spartan and I didn't warn you! So much for another day at work...
