Don't know how many folks here watch Trucks on Spike TV, but if you do, you may remember the Chevy C-10 project truck they worked on called "Copperhead"...it was a 67-72 Chevy...but anyway, they put in a set of high intensity LED Tailight replacements that had plugs that worked with the OEM plugs and looked sweet...anyone know who makes these, and if they make them for our 67-72 Fords? Looking for some for my '69 F100...
I recall reading some post about the led lights and the feedback was not so great. Something about having to be behind the vehicle in order to actually see the lights. Not really visible from an angle. Maybe it was in one of the other misc. forums.
Yeah, I saw that episode twice, and I loved the look. From what I understand, LED's are better in every way. True, they are much more visible from behind, but they should still be plently bright from the sides as well. I'm also looking for a kit like that for my '71 F100....the website Stacy got them from is www.earlyclassic.com , however, it looks like they only have the GM ones there. They might be standard enough to use in ours. I don't know the price though. If you get them, let me know how they work.
Your should goto superbrightleds.com. They have a whole list of the pros and cons of LEDs. They actually make them that fit right into your stock sockets like regular light bulbs. The also have some that project light in all directions also just like regualar light bulbs. I just ordered a set to try out, and I'll repost after I install them.
Thanks for the feedback guys- I'll keep you posted if I get some for my '69- I'm just curious about this side visibility issue that's been brought up..
UPDATE - I installed the 19 LED 1157 replacement bulb in one of my rear tail/brake lights. There is virtually no difference between the standard 1157 bulb and the LED bulb. The regular 1157 is just a little brighter generally speaking, but the LED throws a much crisper light from directly behind. Viewed from and angle, both bulbs are the same, as the factor lense difuses the light from the LEDs. Keep in mind that there is also a 30 LED 1157 style bulb, which would be much brighter.
They are also supposed to use less juice. I noticed after installing them, that my flasher cycled quicker. Prob wont go dark after slamming my tailgate on them either, like the countless other bulbs have done.
Tirdon 2 terminal flashers should be direct replacement for these trucks right? Seems to me they were anyway. They handle a 12 bulb or a 0 bulb load so they will cycle at one speed no matter what.
those little led sets from the parts store (apc brand, I believe) suck. the tail light lense doesn't diffuse them very well and all you get is a little round dot in the middle of your lense. I went the rought of super bright halogen bulbs. plus they were cheaper than the LED's
Before I switched to LED bulbs, I had the flasher quit, so being as I pull a boat now and then, I bought the electronic flasher that AutoZone sold. With the LED's in, they flash the way they are supposed too. (Not every 3 seconds) 7 bucks.
