I'll try to explain this as best as I can... I have a boat with powerwinch...My cables to winch have alligator clips on pos and Negative. When I remove my boat I always have to pop hood and connect clips for power. Is there something I can get that eliminates this? I dont want to wire it to the back cause I dont want cable always there. Thanks
There is power on the Center plug (I believe, check first, it might be a different pin) of your 6 pin connector if you have one. You could buy a male plug and hook one wire up to the + in the plug and connect the other to any ground. Afterward you could unplug the modifed plug and no one would know the difference. Cost would be less than $20 and it would be an easy way for you to fix the issue. The other way would be to modify the plug on your boat to use the Six pin connector and permenantly hook it up that way.
I bet the device is a winch used on the front of the trailer to pull the boat. If I'm correct then the trailer connector would not be able to handle the amp draw of the winch.
I would suggest a remote connector to the rear of the truck, since you don't want that wire then use a seperate battery compartment mounted to your trailer in a battery box. You would just need to recharge the battery at the house.
They sell a jumper cable system that "hardwires" to your truck and provides a clean plug-in that would typically mount somewhere on your grille or bumper. It allows you to jump start vehicles without having to open your hood and connect to your vehicle with alligator clips. You simply connect the clips to the dead vehicle's battery and then plug the other end into the plug mounted on your grille. If you put the same plug end on your winch cables you could plug the winch into the front of your truck without opening the hood. This would give you a great set of booster cables and solve your winch problem as well. Here is a link to a company that makes a set of cables like I'm talking about. I made a set at work, but we have access to the plugs and clips so all I had to do was buy the wire. It's a safer way to jump start as well because at least your hood is always closed. There are probably many companies that make these cables, just do a search on "plug in jumper cables". Here's the link:
You can put a bat on the trailer, the conector is made to charge a battery, so if you are pulling off the trailer bat you should not have a problem with amp draw through the trailer.

The amp draw may not be enough but I know our car hauler sure does pull a lot of juice through it.
the dump trailer at work pulls alot of juice to. Have problems at times keeping it charged and nothing is more fun than unloading 4 tons of dirt by hand.
I'm partial to the plug in connector that hardwires to your battery. You can either go with the front mount and have it play double duty as a plug in for the winch or jumper cables or mount a separate one in a discreet place on the rear of your truck like under the bumper. The ones I've use were called "S B Connectors" and were designed to carry high battery current. If you look at them in person you'll be impressed with their quality. Here's a link to show you the connectors, you can buy your own heavy gauge wire and build your own system. They make an assortment of sizes to be compatible with different gauge wire.
