Check Guage Light
I have a 97 Explorer with a ford remanufactured 4.0 pushrod engine about 15k miles ago. With the engine RPMs are between 3000 and 4000, the check guage light comes on and the oil pressure guage fluctuates.

Sounds like a loose connection on your oil pressure switch or actual low oil pressure. The oil pressure switch changes state at 5 psig. Above 5 psig oil pressure is "normal" on the gauge, below 5 psig the guage pegs low and causes check gauge light.
Trace down your oil pressure switch and make sure the connector is on tight. If the connection is good, the switch is less than $15. Replace it and see it that takes care of it.
