I bought this truck used and inherited a drop-in bedliner. There is some paint rubbing on the edge near the tailgate, but it is in overall good shape.
My question is I am puzzled how to secure (tie, strap, etc) things in the bed. The bedliner is over the rail and the sides are smooth-ish (i.e., no dividers). The liner covers up the cargo tie downs.
I was considering buying a cargo rod that is placed in the bed like a shower curtain rod, but with nothing to anchor to I would be afraid that it would just pop and fly out.
I know my options are:
- Get a spray-in liner than has the original bed contours and access to tie downs
- Get a new drop-in with dividers, etc
- Something I am not aware of that I am asking you fine folks for help with!
Cut holes in your bed liner where the tie down points are.
My bed liner had holes in it from the factory. I use rachet straps and bungee cords all the time.
I also have a "curtain rod" of sorts. It's actually a load lock from a semi trailer that I cut down to fit in the back of my truck. It's good for keeping heavier things from sliding around. I also mounted some bike fork mounts to it to secure bicycles in it.
I'll have to figure out how to post pictures to show you.
I've seen aftermarket tiedowns for Rangers, so cutting like bigrigfixer said and using them is another option. I went and bought some large eyebolts and washers, drilled through the bedliner and installed. All works just fine.
You can just cut out the holes where the tie-downs are. But it does get a little hard to reach in there to tie a top inside. Or you can trash the bedliner, and get a spray in liner (around $250-300) or get a rubber bedmat or something. Pretty much anything is better than the plastic drop-in bedliner. I have one on my truck, but I have a canopy over it too, so if I cleaned it good enough before I put the canopy on, hopefully it won't rust too much under there.
