Sorry for my english but I'm French!!!!!
Best regard.....
But I don't know that is "the clock spring mecanism " and where it si located in the system!
If you life in Quebec (I'm French) you can whrite in French by my mail !!!
Keep on rolling by V8!
In the steering column below the steering wheel is a round plastic disc with metal traces that go around in circles, and on the back of the steering wheel there are metal fingers that rub on those traces. This is the way electrical can flow between the buttons (including the horn switch) on the steering wheel to the column, and not have wires between the two that tangle up when the steering wheel is rotated.
There also is a huge spring in the center, which is ground.
The wiring of these clocksprings are vehicle specific for the most part, but mechanically different parts from different vehicles fit other vehicles just fine (at least if they are all ford).
I had a t-bird steering wheel on my F350 for a while, and everything worked fine. Just had to make a short adaptor between the F-series steering column and the clockspring so that the different pinouts of the t-bird could be used.
This is because some monkey decided to hacksaw my steering wheel trying to get "the club" off, only to realize the truck was parked at the service station for a reason - dead battery.
I really don't know why anyone would want to steal a 280K mile 11 y/o crewcab, but hey, whatever.
