? about VIN tags

Does anyone know if there is a legal way to get a new (replacement) dash VIN tag?

A friend got a car through ebay. They knew it was mostly a shell, but didn't expect the dash to be removed, which included the VIN tag.

Any help would be helpful (that makes sense, doesn't it ??!!)

Thanx

Your Department of Motor Vehicles should be able to provide you with a new VIN number, of course there will be hoops to jump through and lots of paperwork.

A few hoops as well as a few $$'s !!

I figured they should be able to get a reconstructed title, which would include, like ya said....

".... lots of paperwork."

Thanx

I did have the page book marked of a company that supplied them although I lost it on a crash. This company also sold the roset rivits so it all looked right. They cautioned that thaey did not sell VIN plates but called them something else. I seen it listed on a (sorry) classic chevy site.
