#1 Plug on 351
Last week I had a few things to do on the beast. MIL which turned out to be Air Charge Temp sensor. I was a little puzzled over that one, because the resistance factors were pretty close to specs. I was ready to tear into the ECU, and something told me to buy a new sensor. I went to the Zone, and Napa, only to be given the wrong sensor..what a week!! Anyway I will only buy my sensors at Ford from now on. At least they have numbers to match, and the one at Ford was actually a buck cheaper. Anyway Mil light is out. I'm not going to tempt fate and wonder why. I think I'll just accept it as a learning experience.
The reason I'm posting, is because the engine was due for plugs. I don't have many miles but the plugs have been in there since '96. So of course when I tried to dislodge the plugs wires from the plugs, now I'm needing a set of wires to go with the plugs. Really got reamed at Ford for the wires, although I don't mind that much I've tried other brand wires, and end up coming back to Motorcraft. course now I've got to pull out the air intake assembly to get at the distributor cap. Anyway, that's all done, running good, and CEL is out. The only problem is I never changed #1 plug. It looked like a brute. I plan to change it. I just thought maybe I could get some helpful suggestions from folks who have changed this plug. There must be something I'm missing. I was going to keep the plug in the house here until I need to change the alternator, or EGR, and them slip it in while I have this stuff out of the way. Any suggestions from the veterans of this #1 plug. How did you guys handle it?
