I have had enough fun beating those 4 cyl S-10 extremes...it is about time i took on the 4.3 s-10 with my 94 b3000. I am basically running a stock setup with a 5spd manual, so that 4.3 right now will be a challenge. I have a ram-air in the making, but i know i need more than that to stand a chance. I am looking into getting underdrive pulleys(not sure where to get them?), new 19lb/hr injectors (will this require i get an aftermarket MAFS?), new plugs and wires(will the Bosch Platinum+4 make any more difference than stock?), a larger throttle body to limit the possiblity of my intake being bottlenecked (can i just pull a larger throttle body from an older mustang? do i need a new intake manifold?)..and lastly..i am looking into a superchip..preferable a diablo for my 3.0l v-6 (are these things are too set up? anyone have a good idea for upgrading the stock ecm?). I know you guys would say it would prolly be lest work to swap the 3.0L with a 5.0...but i would like to see the S-10 drivers face when he sees the 3.0L plate after he loses.
Please help me make this possible. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.
You have alot of work ahead of you, if it's even possible without NOS or forced induction. The 4.3 is a strong engine, probably a little faster than the 4.0 depending on truck configuration. There are some mods for the 3.0
Non of the mods you mentioned will give you any substantial increase in power. The only performance mods that will give a substantial increase in power are nitrous, and/or a supercharger!!! One other thing SPARK PLUGS DO NOT INCREASE POWER!!!! Don't waste your money!!!!
I believe someone makes a supercharger for the 3.0, that and/or nitrous are probably your only chance with that engine. Or swap in a 4.0 or 5.0 (harder and more money).
I had an 01 GMC Sonoma with the 4.3 and can tell you those things haul pretty good. As previously stated, nitrous or a supercharger are your only real options. Whipple makes a supercharger for the 3.0, just in case you have an extra $2495 laying around. Nitrous would obviously be much cheaper. With the mods you listed, you better hope the other guy is a very bad driver and running stock. I had a programmer, locker in the rear diff, K&N intake, pulley kit, and cat-back dual exhaust on my 4.3. I think I would have made short work of you with the minor mods you listed.

I'm with you man my Ex Bro-n-law has a Xtreme and wants to race me I know i'll lose. So i'm going all out when I can afford it. I'm talking engine boring the whole shabang. Very last is gonna be nitrous tho b/c can't do anything if you blow it up.
I drive my dad's 4.3 4x2 sonoma all the time and my 4.0 4x4 ranger. His engine revs quicker and has more HP, but the torque numbers are closer, and the 4.0 hits the torque lower in the RPM's. There is this little "test track" i have from one stop sign to a 55mph sign. Dont know exactly how far it is, but i can get my ranger upto 70 mph. My dad's somnoma is EXACTLY the same at the sign. People often under estimate the 4.0, but dont under estimate the 4.3 either. I would love to get my dad side by side, but he won't do it.
"I just love how Chevy guys think Fords suck and Ford guys think Chevys suck, oh well, it'll always be that way."
This is true but Dodge trucks beat all, i know i have a ford, and i dont like chevy at all but i still gotta say i love the dodge's - just as long as it's not a car, the tranny's dont hold up in those
