Bad ECU

Hi Im new to this site, have a 1991 E150 with 351 keep having a no start problem after turing key off and on a few times it starts up and runs good then wene driving the check eng light comes on and it starts backfiring and losses all power tell it dies. durinng this check eng light is on before it stals out my overdrive dont work button does nothing but sometimes it fixes itself check eng light goes off and it starts running good and overdrive works again.pulled the ECU from pasinger side under AC blower and looks like water was geeting in it lots of rust on case and opened it up looks like oily stuff around the caps on the cirrcutt board and some green stuff on the board aroud some of the cirrcutts on the board . and i had autozone code check it the found nothing but it still keeps doing this can't trust it to drive anywere .so think changing the ECU will fix it any help this is a big pain
THANKS

Welcome to FTE. If I were to guess, I would say change it. But I hate to see you spend alot of money and it didn't help. I don't know why else the check eng. light comes on and then no codes. Make sure you disconnect the battery when you change anything electrical. You could fry something. Good luck.

You might try running the question through the electrical forum. That is probably where the electrical gurus hang out.
