awesome engine.............ok its not the fastest engine but it makes up for it in every other way ive got fat 33/12-50r15 tires sittin underneath the black beast and can still lay the rubber down. wich is better my I6.300 or my buds v8.305?
Welcome to FTE. Well you arent comparing apples to apples here. For one thing, your straight 6 can last 250k miles before you might see some issues. As for the 305, I have never heard anything good about them. Secondly, I would much rather have a large 6, than a small 8. Although he might beat you on hp numbers, I think you might have more torque than him. I am just going from memory here though on my hp/tq numbers.
The 305 is a piece, but if it's anything like the 302 power wise, the 302 will smoke you. I owned an I-6 truck and now the 302, both almost identical trucks (see gallery) except 2wd/4wd. My lifted F-150, weighing 5300 lbs, will smoke my buddy's 96 2wd stock F-150, when mine has twice the mileage and a lot more weight. I only have 4.10s on my 35's too, nothing drastic.
The I-6 is slow, theres virtually nuttin for power upgrades, but it'll last a long time, its easy to work on, and it has great low end power. The 302 has about 50 more hp so you can't even compair them, and it has 10 ft-lbs of torque over the 300. The main difference is that the 300 has the torque low, all between idle and 2200 rpm. The 302 has it between 2500-4500, but it has enough low end torque for crusing around at low rpm.
I loved my 300 until I got my new truck w/ the 302, I'd never go back to an I-6. The 302 is way faster and, it's a V-8, sounds great
Pretty soon the 302's coming out and a 351 will be going in, eh...350hp should keep those 300s far at bay hehe
