electric fan

welp once again i am in need of your help! I recently rebuilt my 6.9L in class, The cab that i had was toast, so i replaced that with a better one, but still had to replace rockers, cab corners, etc....

My question is that when i rebuilt the motor i left the mechanical fan off, to save on water pump life, fuel mileage, and maybe gain a little power. So i was wondering if any of you have you used a electric Primary fan only.... If so which fan did you use and from where, i have called a few places and stores and most of them have been unsuccesful at helping me. The tech support at Flex-a-light told me that i need a BARE minimum of 4600 cfm, and it needs to be a puller.
Thank you for any help.

I doubt you'll find an electric fan that will keep that engine cool on a hill with a load. If the truck won't be "worked" you could probably get away with it though.

NAPA lists several in their books that might work.
I did the electric fan route for a while.
Power went up, fuel mileage went up.
But I was using 100 dollar fans, two of them switched seperatly.
But they burnt up after several months.
I never could get one to last long enough to be cost effective.
Plus my son turned the AC on one day without turning a fan on, blew the freon overpressure fuse on the AC compressor. Another 200 dollars down the tubes.
The units that NAPA lists in their books have the CFM's but they also have a price of 300 dollars.
I did not want to gamble 600 bucks that they would not last very long either, so I put the stock fan back on.

When I drove tractor trailer we had Horton Air fan clutches on the big rig fans.
Something like that is what we need on these engines.

I think a lot of it was because I was running them in the winter while I was plowing snow.
The all the lights and plow used enough juice that the voltage drop made them over amp and get hot.

No, I was not running a relay, but I did have #4 AWG wire on them. This was about 5 sizes bigger than should have been needed.

i have a '97 powerstroke and after the water pump went south i left the fan off also. i used flex-a-lite FLX-290 dual 15" fans. you need a 32" or wider radiator and they more 5500 cfm at full speed. they turn on to like 70% power then it hits the set point and 100% when it goes 10 degress above. only problem i have had is thye turn on when the a/c pump turns on and when your sitting in traffic that's fine but running down the road it drops the motor temp too much. so i have wired a shut off switch in so when i'm runn'n down the road i can lock the a/c signal out but the fans still go on with the rad temp. they work great and i have done alot of pulling with it also. one other thing is i shut them off in the winter also. faster warm ups and the fuel milage gain is about 2 miles to the gallon
