Hi. New here.
I have an 85 Ford Econoline that I bought because my 91 Explorer keeps eating engines.
The van idles pretty high and likes to chug pretty hard at idle or while holding speed.
I took it in and was told that I had a plugged Pollution tube.
I have been researching this and have found not much on it.
Does anyone know what this is and is it an easy fix?
Thanks in advance.
Wolff
Welcome to FTE!
There is nothing in there called a "pollution tube". Either they don't know what they're doing or they're pulling your leg. Might want to try a different shop.
It would be helpful to know what engine and transmission you have and how many miles are on the van. Also, what is the status of the routine maintenance items, such as plugs, wires, air and fuel filters, PCV valve, etc.?
Yeah, the fact that I had never heard of the tube raised a flag. Thats why I did not take to their recommended carb shop.
Ive done my own work on my cars since I was 18 and while I have never had to do much extensive work on a carb I know most of the parts. Maintainance on this thing has been sub par. I bought it knowing that though. I have recently replaced the plugs, wires and tires soon Ill post some specs on the van after work today. Thank you for your response Wolff
Might also change the fuel and air filters and PCV valve. Check the vacuum line for that valve to make sure it's not plugged. Could be the tube they mentioned is the one from the manifold to the EGR valve, but that wouldn't affect idle. Probably oughta pull the codes, if you haven't already done so. A vacuum leak could cause the symptoms you described. Could be the carb, but I'd check this other stuff first...
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you. This weekend I will check into these possibilities. I will let you know the result
