'79 F150 - Steering Coupling Missing - Help!
I have purchased a tilt steering column with cruise on Ebay to put in my 1979 F-150
2WD. The shaft that comes out of the bottom of the column has no flange mounted to it.
There are splines on the bottom of the shaft, a flat spot on the splines, and a little round
indention where it looks like a bolt screws down against. The flange on my factory
column that I removed is welded on and I can't remove it.
My assumption from what I have read on the FTE threads is that the column that I have
purchased evidently came off of a 4X4 truck which had the U-Joint type coupling
between the lower column output shaft and the steering gear box. I saw pictures of
diagrams on one of the threads which showed this type of shaft being able to accept either
the U-Joint type coupling (4X4 applications) or just the round type flange (like the one
that is welded to my original 2WD shaft). Both of which attach with a bolt and are
removable.
My question is does a lower shaft coupling that can be bolted onto this column shaft
exist? If so, what is it called, and where can I get it? Anybody have one?
Thanks for any help...
Thanks again everyone for the replies to the post and e-mail .
