Tire sizes?

Hi everyone...
Just bought a new set of wheels for my 1998 Ranger for a great deal. Anyways my stock tires are 235 75 15 and the new wheels I bought are 16". I was wondering if the jump from 235 75 15 to 245 75 16 would make a huge difference in the shifting and speedometer in the truck. I realize Ford can reprogram the truck but I want to be able to put on the stock wheels in the winter and the nice wheels in the summer without worrying about the computer. I figured the tire sizes in inches are 28.9 for the stock tires and the new ones would be 30.5. I'd only be jumping up 1.5". Any help is appreciated. By the way the truck is a 1998 Ranger XLT supercab with 4x4, automatic, 4.0 V6, and 3.73 open gears.
Thanks,
-Phil

Shouldn't be too much, atleast I wouldn't think. The speedo on my truck has been off by a few mph since I bought it (accord to my GPS). I think superlift (maybe it's someone else) also makes an electronic programmer to change settings for tire sizes too, I believe it's called truespeed or something. Something to look into anyway...

Well, new Idea. Was actually thinking about 255 70 16s on the truck. Question is still the same as above... Do I have to get the computer reprogrammed? How much is this going to hurt my speedometer and tranny shifting? Also, do you think I can tuck this size tire without rubbing?
Thanks again,
-Phil

That size will fit fine on a 98 4x4. Mine came stock with 265/75/15, which is basicly a 31x10.50, which is on it now. No rubbing. My gears are also 3.73, handles it fine. Tranny should shift fine I'd think, but the speedo will probably be a little off. Like I said, if it bothers you, get it reprogrammed. I don't know the formula to see much much the speedo will be off. I personally wouldn't worry about the speedo too much
