Tore into the 56!

Well, I took the whole the front portion of the engine off. Primarily just wanted to clean things up and replace the worn out seals, gaskets, etc. I noticed the timing chain was kinda loose on the 302. I'm going to put a gear drive in it for sure. I'm wondering if I should put a cam in it while I'm at it and have the whole front of the engine open. I'd have to take the intake manifold off, etc. I know some of the 302's had those crazy rocker arms which were self adjusting. You merely had to tork them down and they would self adjust. I'm not sure if this engine is like that. I had a 302 from a 68 Cougar that did have them, and I had to dish out an additional $60 for some funky adjusters. Pros or cons on putting a cam in? I'm still debating on what to do and need your guys advise. I'll probably do this next weekend. I've also got some pics I'll be posting. It was real interesting trying to get the harmonic balancer off without the tip that goes on the top of the puller. DAH!!!!!!( luckily I didn't mess up the threads on the crank)

Since it is this far down, do a cam. I love the Comp Cam 280 in mine.
